Workforce Development

In recent years, many companies have faced challenges when it comes to attracting and retaining employees. GROW partners with other local organizations to promote and develop a strong workforce in Licking County.

Many local employers have been thinking of creative ways to attract new employees. For example, some of our local manufacturers have created mid-day shifts that allow parents to work while their children are at school and still be home in time to pick them up. Some employers have also been looking at daycare options to assist working parents.

Workforce development is a key initiative for economic growth. GROW staff regularly meets with local employers to better understand their business retention and expansion needs. Through collaboration with our local employment and business development partners, we are able to provide many career pathways resources for our local workforce while helping to meet the needs of our local employers.

One of the ways GROW promotes workforce development is through Licking County Works. Licking County Works was created in partnership with OhioMeansJobs Licking County and the Licking County Chamber of Commerce. The goal is to connect job-seekers with career development resources. These resources include a list of local education and training partners, available jobs from the OhioMeansJobs Licking County database, and career pathways resources.

Through these resources, job-seekers can gain more knowledge to upskill and apply for jobs in Licking County’s in-demand industries. Some of these industries include manufacturing, healthcare, warehousing and logistics, and computer systems and information technology (IT). Our education partners have developed programs specific to these industries to prepare students for successful careers.
